Aerika Brittian Loyd and Bernadette Sánchez highlight the importance of fostering positive ethnic/racial identity development among youth of color, particularly Black youth, in mentorship programs. Recent media coverage of, and ensuing protests against, the murders of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and George Floyd signal the need to engage in positive ethnic/racial identity development among Black youth with increased urgency. The authors provide evidence-based recommendations for mentors and program-level practices.
