Spotlight on YHD Lab Members at UCR R’PSYC 2024 Conference

Members of the Youth Health and Development (YHD) lab—Angie Louie (alumni), Mushashi Avalos (alumni), Kayla Daniel, Elsie Awuah (alumni), and Laura Perez (alumni)—presented their research at the 6th Annual Undergraduate Psychology Research Conference (R’PSYC) on Sunday, June 2, 2024.

This year, RAs Laura Perez and Kayla Daniel were selected as highlighted speakers.

  1. Laura delivered her talk, “Links Between Risk Context, Acculturation Processes, and Adjustment Among Latinx Adolescents,” under the guidance of Dr. Bravo and the Cultural Resilience and Motivation (CRM) lab. Her study examines how blending U.S. and Latinx cultural influences relates to risky behaviors, such as substance use, among Latinx youth.
  2. Kayla presented her talk, “A Study of Black Identity, Stressors, and Mental Health in the States and Across Seas,” under the guidance of Dr. Loyd and the YHD lab. Her research explores the complexities of the Black diaspora and their experiences with various stressors.

To conclude this informative event, attendees participated in an interactive panel discussion on interdisciplinary research featuring Dr. Aerika B. Loyd, Dr. John Franchack, Maribeth Trego, M.A., and Ph.D. candidate Amanda Sadri.

This year’s R’PSYC was an incredible experience, and we at YHD are already looking forward to seeing what our RAs will present in 2025!
